Your home. Your choice. Your care.

June 19, 2008

At a recent "Voice for Choice" state house caucus is Damon Syphers, Caregiver Advisor for Boston Senior Home Care, and Angela Fernandes, a caregiver. Angela attended the state house caucus to express her concern for decreased funding in home care services. Angela Fernandes is the primary caregiver for her 89 year old mother who is suffering from late stage Alzheimer's disease. Angela's primary caregiver responsibilities span over five years. Presently, her mother attends adult day health five times a week and receives homecare services that assist Angela with the care of her mother. In addition to Angela's caregiving responsibilities to her mother, Angela also attends to the needs of a son who has autism and lives in a residential facility. Without the assistance of homecare services, Angela's stress and anxiety levels would be an undue burden on her.
